Keep Moving Forward

Thomas Edison once said, “Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration. I never did anything worth doing by accident, nor did any of my inventions come by accident. They came by work.” Edison is saying that the ‘idea’ is the first step and the easiest part. Taking action, working hard and following through with the idea is where the difficulty begins and the rewards are achieved. Right now, it is easy for all of us to sit back and feel sorry for ourselves…to become complacent…to allow things to happen in front of us without being involved. Don’t let it happen. Especially in this automotive industry we are all a part of. Move forward, not backward or staying motionless. Standing still is one of the many reasons we are in the position we are now.

It’s a simple theory, if you are not constantly moving, improving, creating and adapting…then your competitor will fly right past you. Decisions are made by those who show up. Come up with new ideas with real solutions. Be passionate about them and see it through to the end. Don’t like the current direction your department is going? Disagree with your current marketing & advertising? Not hitting or exceeding your quota? Show up.

We are all critics, and there is nothing wrong with that. However, if you criticize, you damn well better have a solution and be willing to work towards that solution. Each one of us plays a significant role that has a direct impact on the success of our business. We fail both ourselves and our companies by not continuously striving to improve every aspect of our job.

So…it’s your decision…With one simple question… How are you going to handle it?
